Design of the Rowing Tank in Štětí Arena

The aim of the project was to develop a rowing and paddling simulator for the Štětí na Labi Arena. The uniqueness of this project is highlighted by the fact that there are only a few similar facilities in the world and not all of them are working as expected. Therefore, during the development, we used the methods of CFD prototyping together with BIM to transfer the proposed structural arrangement to the site.

An important aspect of the design was to guarantee the same water velocities for the first and last rower, to ensure the calmest possible water level along the entire length of the pool, and at the same time to optimally calm the water in the pump sump. For this, a parametric optimization of the return elbows and calming wells were used, where several hundred different combinations of the dimensions were tested. Finally, calming lamellas were added and the entire pool was recalculated in 3D, including pumps for finishing touches.
