Design of the Artificial Whitewater Course Kadaň

In this project, we’ve designed a new whitewater course for canoe slalom in the water sports complex in Kadaň, Czech Republic. In this case, it was not a construction on a green field, so it was necessary to obtain digital data of the current terrain first. Due to the dense vegetation and the size of the area, the classic method of laser scanning wouldn’t have paid off financially and, above all, time-wise. Therefore, a drone was used to photogrammetrically capture the terrain.

In the next step, a mathematical CFD model was created based on this data, which was used to design a new streambed and innovative obstacles, which due to their shape retain their functionality even at low flows, which is usually a problem with standard solutions.

In the last phase of the project, the design of the new course was implemented in the form of a physical model to fine-tune the location and shape of obstacles and check the functionality of the entire course for different flows.
